In line with the Good Practice Guide for Scottish institutions the University is training a number of senior managers with student-facing responsibilities in the Prevent duty and broader issues around radicalisation and extremism.

The UK government’s guidance to Scottish Universities on implementing the Prevent duty


JISC is delivering the government-approved WRAP course online and for free to HE and FE staff.  This workshop is an introduction to the Prevent strategy and an individual’s role in safeguarding vulnerable people.

The guidance published in 2016 by the National Union of Students (which is opposed to Prevent) for its members organisations.


The UK Home Office review and refresh of Prevent (2011).


A series of films made for the BBC by journalist Catrin Nye and director Ben Lister, looking at how the authorities deal with radicals.


A resource run by Universities UK to help universities, in the context of Prevent, “remain places where…free speech can prosper and safe campus communities can thrive.”  This includes a wide range of information, case studies and links to research on radicalisation.


A report published in 2009 by the Institute of Race Relations that suggested that the Prevent programme fostered division, mistrust and alienation.
