Louise Kelso

Louise holds an LLB in Scots Law and a Diploma in Legal Practice. As General Counsel and Director of Legal Services, Louise provides advice and guidance to the University on a wide range of legal and strategic issues, while leading our in-house Legal Services and Information Compliance Services teams. 

Louise was a partner in a leading UK law firm prior to joining the University in 2023. As a solicitor in private practice, she specialised in litigation and dispute resolution and acted as trusted advisor to clients in the education, finance, insurance, property and legal sectors. She is accredited as both a mediator and a specialist in professional negligence law. 

Outside the University, Louise serves as a member of the Law Society of Scotland Insurance Committee and also sits on the Committee for the Boroughmuir High School Former Pupils’ Association.
