Rona Smith

Rona is Deputy Secretary Governance & Strategic Planning, a post she’s held since 2021. Rona’s role is deeply woven in to supporting and evidencing how the University is progressing against Strategy 2030.

Rona’s remit includes:

  • Leading the Governance & Strategic Planning directorate, including its three sub teams – Planning and Policy, Governance and Court Services, and Business Intelligence.  
  • Membership of the Planning Leadership Group, alongside the Provost and Chief Finance Officer, which collectively oversees the annual Planning & Budget-setting process
  • Acting as the University’s key contact with the Scottish Funding Council  
  • Acting as Deputy Secretary, and as delegate for the University Secretary on relevant matters  
  • Convening the University Information Governance Group.

Her priorities include:

  • Providing support, information and advice to senior leaders to help the University navigate a challenging context while maintaining focus on Strategy 2030 priorities
  • Coordinating reporting against the 16 KPIs in the Strategic Performance Framework
  • Strengthening governance and evidence-based decision making through high-quality analysis and insight.
